Senior Speaker Series with Pak Wiwig Santoso – Head of Treasury

Pak Wiwig Santoso, Head Of Tresaury SMBCI

The afternoon commenced with a compelling Senior Speaker Series featuring Pak Wiwig Santoso, the Head of Treasury at SMBC Indonesia. Pak Wiwig welcomed our students warmly and shared insights drawn from over two decades of experience in the banking sector. His session began with an introduction to SMBC’s global footprint, outlining its Japanese roots and expansive operations across Asia and beyond.

He then provided an in-depth look into the role of treasury in a multinational bank—how it functions as the financial brain of the organization, managing liquidity, risks, foreign exchange, and strategic planning. Students learned how treasury operations are crucial in navigating volatility in global markets and supporting the bank’s overall balance sheet strength.

Perhaps the most memorable part of Pak Wiwig’s talk was his personal story—his rise from a young graduate to a senior executive, the challenges he faced, and the mindset that allowed him to thrive. He encouraged students to build strong foundations, develop adaptability, and to remain curious in whatever field they pursue. His approachable demeanor, combined with actionable advice, made the session both informative and deeply inspiring.

Exclusive Office Tour – A Glimpse into Corporate Banking at the Top

Following the speaker session, attendees were given a guided office tour of SMBC’s prestigious 47 floor headquarters. With sweeping views of Jakarta’s skyline, the tour offered students a behind-the-scenes look into the workspaces, boardrooms, and operation rooms where key financial decisions are made. The design of the office—sleek, modern, and efficient—reflected SMBC’s commitment to excellence and professionalism.

For many students, this was a rare opportunity to experience what a day in the life of an SMBC employee might look like, helping them visualize their own career paths in the banking world.

Visit to the Jenius Floor – A Dive into Digital Banking Innovation

Jenius Digital Banking, SMBCI, 18th Floor

Next, students were introduced to Jenius, the digital banking arm of SMBCI. This portion of the tour transported participants into a completely different atmosphere—innovative, dynamic, and driven by technology.

The Jenius team shared how they are building digital-first banking solutions tailored for modern consumers, with a special focus on user experience, mobile integration, and data-driven decision-making. From user interface design to cybersecurity, students gained a holistic view of what it takes to build a fintech product inside a traditional banking structure. They also got a chance to explore the Jenius workspace, which stood in stark contrast to traditional banking offices—an open and creative environment that fosters innovation and collaboration.

This segment was particularly eye-opening for students interested in technology, product development, and digital transformation, providing a glimpse into the future of banking.

Internship and Trainee Program Info Session

26th Floor, Menera SMBC

The final segment of the event was a recruitment and career information session hosted by SMBC’s Human Resources team. The session began with an overview of SMBC’s internship offerings and their highly competitive Trainee Program, which serves as a structured entry point into the bank’s global talent pipeline.

Students learned about the qualifications needed, the selection process, and what to expect during the program. More importantly, the HR team emphasized SMBC’s commitment to nurturing young talent, especially Indonesians studying abroad, and expressed a strong interest in continuing partnerships with organizations like PERMIAS.

Several students stayed afterward to ask questions, share resumes, and express interest in future roles—marking the session as not just informative, but potentially career-launching.
